Head coach of the Buffalo Sabres is out due to their 6-10-1 start.
Lindy Ruff spent 16 seasons with Buffalo, in which he became the franchises winningest coach (571-432-162) and the NHL's longest active serving coach with one team.
The Sabres, however, haven't been the same since reaching the Eastern Conference finals -- losing both times -- in both 2006 and '07. Buffalo has missed the playoffs in three of the past five seasons.
Buffalo has only made it to the playoffs 2 of the last 5 years, and have never won a Stanley Cup under Ruff.
Ruff has been replaced by AHL Rochester's Ron Rolston, Buffalo's minor league affiliate, to finish the season as intern head coach.
Rolston has helped lead the USA under 18 team to three gold metals (05, 09, 11).
