The White Sox hope they have found their savior. On Thursday the Chicago White Sox. signed Cuban Defector Jose Abreu. Abreu signed a six-year $68 million contract it is the largest initial free-agent contract given to a International Player. the 6'3, 250lb first baseman looks to take over the first base position after Paul Konerko became a free agent at the end of the 2013 season. Abreu hit .360 (9-25) with three home runs and nine RBIs last year in the World Baseball Classic. Abreu is the latest of the top talent coming out of Cuba. Following Oakland Athletics Yoenis Cespedas and Los Angelas Dodgers Yasiel Puig. Both of those players have became instant studs in the MLB. Cespedas is hitting .265 with 49 home runs and 162 RBI's in his first 2 seasons. Also, coming in 2nd in Rookie of the Year votes behind Angels Mike Trout. Yasiel Puig made his Major League debut in 2013 where he had a break out season after spending 2 months at AA-Chattanooga Puig broke on to the scene following injuries from Matt Kemp, Carl Crawford and, Andre Either. Puig went on to hit 19 home runs, and 42 RBIs in a 104 games. Abreu hope to keep up the great numbers that the rest of the Cuban prospects have put up and keep the rich Cuban database strong.
